Do you ever reflect on how you are living your life right now or how you would like to do it? And what you would like to achieve in your life? What choices you consciously or unconsciously make in your life? To what extent are you aware of the impact you (want to) have on yourself, on others and possibly even on the world? To what extent are you figuring out who you are? And what you stand for? Actually, personal leadership begins with this quest.
My story
I myself lived like this for years, swallowed up by work, family, studies and all the demands made on me by myself, my (work) environment and society. I was unaware of who I was, what I stood for, what was REALLY important to me and what I wanted to achieve in my life. The loss of my job at that time got me thinking and I started to see this event, which at first made me sad, as an enormous opportunity to change the course of my working life. I became aware that I could now decide for myself what I wanted to do with my (working) life and what direction I wanted to take.
This brought me on the path of, among other things, Co-Active coaching through which I got to know myself much better. I became aware of what shaped me into who I am. This has brought me clarity about who I want to become, what I want to achieve in my working life and what impact I want to have. And the “getting to know myself” provided the necessary eye openers.
Personal leadership also for you
Now you may be thinking: yes, nice and important, but what use is that to me?
By working on your personal development, you regain a clear focus and purpose in your life. You make much more conscious choices about what you do and do not want, what you stand for. That often helps you in challenging and also difficult situations and ensures that you stand firmer in those situations.
What elements shape you and make you who you are? Here you can think about what have you done, what are your character traits, what qualities and pitfalls do you have. And also, what have you experienced during your life. And how does it affect you in your daily thinking and acting. All your experiences contribute to this:
- Successes and achievements,
- Mistakes and failures,
- wonderful and unpleasant events,
- What kind of family and environment you grew up in, and
- In what way emotions and behavior were handled, etc.
